Marketing a Korean Car in China

This is an excerpt from the paper...

Hyundai is a Korean company which manufactures industrial equipment and supplies, but which also manufactures automobiles which it sells not only in its native country, but which it also exports to other countries. Recognizing that the American and European markets have largely become saturated, Hyundai has expressed interest in pursuing the Chinese market, a market which is opening up access to foreign companies (with strict regulations, however) and which has a population base rendering it the envy of marketers around the world (Taylor, 1997, p. 114).

However, there remain markets in Asia that do not have high adoption rates and where there is considerable room for growth (and the profit margins which accompany this stage of the product lifecycle). China certainly is one such market. Until recently, there was little demand for personal automobile transportation in China, but recent economic events in that nation have changed the situation, and are likely to continue to bring about increased demand for personal vehicles in the near future. As a result, companies such as Hyundai which have seen market saturation in their traditional markets are likely to see vast opportunity for their products in the Chinese market. However, the international nature of the automobile industry cannot be ignored any more than the effect of the early
