In each case, the acquiring firm is a company based in the United States, while the acquired entity is either a firm based in a county other than the United States or a profit-center operation wholly-owned by a firm based in a county other than the United States. The three cases analyzed are as follows: Lawson Software, Inc. (United States) acquires Intentia International, AB (Sweden)
New Century Financial Corporation (United States) acquires RBC Mortgage Company, the United States Unit that is wholly owned by RBC Mortgage Corp. (Canada)
GE Commercial Finance (United States), a wholly owned subsidiary of General Electric Corporation (United States) acquires Bombardier Capital-Inventory Finance Division, wholly owned by Bombardier Capital, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bombardier Corp. (Canada)
Each case is analyzed in two contexts. First, each case is analyzed in relation to the strategies followed by the acquiring firms. Second, each case is analyzed in relation to the financial outcomes associated with each acquisition.
