Service Industry Targeting Teens
This is an excerpt from the paper...
There are numerous legal questions to be resolved when a company begins operation. When a company caters to a teenage market, the legal liability issues become even greater. The personal views of an owner also shape the business environment, and it is possible (even desirable) for a business to create an environment which protects it from legal action while promoting a Christian ethical perspective. By emphasizing a "just" environment as postulated by Thomas Aquinas, business owners can offer ethical alternatives to non-Christian businesses. The business, called the Internet Arcade for the purposes of this research, will combine the traditional video arcade with personal computers having access to the Internet. In addition, some products will be sold (snacks and non-alcoholic beverages) and there will be office space for the staff. Of the physical attacks, the majority (75 percent) of the attacks involved fist fights, 8 percent were stabbings and 17 percent involved firearms. Homicide is the third leading cause of workplace fatalities for all workers, and the leading cause of workplace fatalities for women. Some states have ruled that employers who fail to provide a safe work environment for their employees can be held financially liable for violence which occurs in the workplace, which places additional burdens on small companies which may not be able to weather such violence (Coco, 1998).
