For example, one can invest in single family homes, or multiple unit housing units. One can invest in retail or commercial property, or one might invest in vacant land. In residential property, one can invest in property they intend to live in, or can rent the property and be an absentee landlord. In retail or commercial properly, one can buy or build in response to a specific request, or one can build based on an assumption that a lessee, or a buyer, if applicable, will be found for the commercial property. One can purchase property with a buy and hold strategy in mind, or based on a hot tip or with the expectation that the property will be held for a relatively short period of time and then sold at a profit (Carter).
