K. H. has been hired by the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas to develop real time data conversion. Haynes was hired into the resort's IT department to oversee the conversion of certain databases into an XML database. The person who hired him told him that he would function autonomously and would have complete support from management at the very highest positions. As he described the systems when he arrived a little over two years ago, it sounded like a history of computer software. "We had become infected by what I call BIL software. That stands for brother in law, and I look at it like this. There have been 11 IT programmers before me, and the longest one lasted about four months. These guys didn't like talking to management, and would bring in software programs that a friend recommended, and they worked but not well. And then when they would get fired, the software would remain behind."
