INTERVIEW AND PREMININARY ASSESSMENT OF AN ELDERLY PERSON

The results of an interview of an elderly person, together with a preliminary assessment (interviewer's reaction) of that person is presented in this research. These data are presented within the contexts of (1) identifying data, (2) description, (3) family history, (4) life style changes, (5) perception of aging, and (6) interviewer's reaction.

Personal characteristics of the person interviewed are presented in this section. These characteristics range are primarily demographic in character.

The subject of this interview is a male. He is a physically active person.

The subject of this interview is 72 years old. He is nearer to 72 years old than to 73 years old.

The subject of this interview is a Caucasian. Ethnically, he is an Irish-American.

The subject of this interview is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is not especially active in the local Mormon stake.

The subject of this interview is a college graduate. His highest level of formal educational attainment is a Bachelor's Degree.

The subject of this interview is no longer formally employed. Earlier in his life, he was employed by the Boeing Company for more than 25 years and conducted his own business as a manufacturer's representative for approximately 15 years.

The subject of this interview is married. He has had only one wife; however, the couple was divorced after 41 years of marriage. Following four years of separation, they were remarried seven years ago. Overall, they have been married for a total of 48 years that has spanned a period of 52 years.

There are only two persons in the individual's household at this time·the individual interviewed and his wife. On two occasions over the past seven years, two daughters, at separate times, have lived in the individual's household for several months at a stretch while going through their own divorces. ...
