Instant Mental Telepathy Would be Destructive to Human Relationships

It has been suggested that open and honest communication is the key to a happy and healthy relationship. The question that we are asked to consider is this: No matter how open and honest a relationship is, could any loving relationship survive if mental telepathy were a reality and people around us would know what we thought about moment to moment and day to day.

It has been suggested that most relationships would never get off the ground if telepathy were a reality. I agree. No matter how much some people may believe they want honesty in their relationships, the kind of honesty that would occur if each of us had mental telepathy would be of an entirely different type than one would find in even the most open and honest relationship. Not only would others know what you were going to say, they would know what options you had considered before saying what you said. They would know the subtext of every comment you made. Friends and acquaintances would know your true feelings, motives, and personal opinions about the people with whom you interact.

I also agree with the idea that relationships would never get off the ground because the mental discipline that would be required to block thoughts from forming would be so rigorous that many people would prefer to live solitary lives rather than having to address the challenge of guarding one's thoughts.
