Individual Development Plan
This is an excerpt from the paper...
At first, the knowledge (or new awareness) that my MBTI type was ISTJ, seemed essentially as meaningless as when I learned that I was a Gemini and therefore had certain things such as celestial confluences affecting my fate. However, since the Robbins' text spent so much time analyzing the Myers-Briggs test, I determined that it should be met with an open mind (or perhaps a mellowing out of the "J" part of my personality). More then 2 million people a year take the MBTI in the United States alone. Organizations using the MBTI include Apple Computer, AT&T, Citicorp, Exxon, Gem 3M Co., plus many hospitals, educational institutions and even the U.S. Armed Forces (Robbins, 1998, 55). However, the "J" aspect of my personality was relieved to find that explanation followed by. "Ironically, there is no hard evidence that the MBTI is a valid measure of personality. But lack of evidence doesn't seem to deter its use in a wide range of organizations" (Robbins, 1998, 55). Nonetheless, I set about on a voyage of personal discovery to determine: A) What exactly is an ISTJ? B) Is it possible to change from an ISTJ to some other four-letter combination? and C) Is the indicator of any value to my career as a Security Director. This led into the creation of the Personal Development Plan that follows. By way of explanation, I will analyze myself in four areas: A) Leadership Style and Effectiveness; B) Team Membe

25. Since the range is between 20 and 140, my score of 75 puts me substantially in the middle. This seems a valid score for a director of security, since it suggests a flexibility in interaction but still with a reserve of judgment. Again, this is in line with Berens and Nardi's suggestion that ISTJs are quiet and reserved individuals who are interested in security and peaceful living (22).
26. My score of 82 puts me in the second quartile, which suggests a skill at building a team but not an exceptional talent.
27. My score of 27 suggests that I am very close to the national average, which feels good to me, since I have never been interested in "power" of the sort suggested by Machiavelli.
