This is an excerpt from the paper...
During the last century, the average global temperature has risen 1 C (1.8 F). That compares with an average rise of one degree per millennium over the last 12,000 years. About half of this temperature increase has been caused by carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of human activity. Most CO2 release comes from the burning of fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, and petroleum. Atmospheric accumulation of CO2 can also result from deforestation. Furthermore, other gases which cause a rise in average global temperature include methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and ozone. Much of this pollution comes from industrial sources. If it were not for some natural greenhouse effect, temperatures at the Earth's surface today would be some 33 C (60 F) colder and life as we know it could not exist. Scientists are now debating whether
