1. Cicero provided a strong analysis of communication and described clearly the art of making a convincing presentation, which really means the art of communicating with others. Cicero was known as the great communicator, yet oratory was only one of the subjects he understood and described. To imitate Cicero in making a strong presentation, it is necessary to understand the elements that go into communication: 1) content, 2) style, 3) delivery, 4) writing, 5) wit, and 6) memory. In all of these elements, the nature of the audience is to be considered first, for Cicero understood the need to be sensitive to the audience and to reach them not only according to their level of understanding and interest but also by responding directly to the mood and reaction of the audience while the presentation was being given. In terms of content, Cicero thoroughly understand his subjects, and when he spoke he also mad reference to a wide variety of legal, moral, civic, and philosophical issues that would help him reach his audience. In terms of style, Cicero developed his own style, one that suited him and that could be made to work effectively in his presentations. It is important to make your expression your own as well as to follow certain rules that will help reach the listener. In terms of delivery, a careful cultivation of the voice is important, and the manner in which the speech is delivered often decides whether anyone really hears it.
