The principals and practice of osteopathy do not, for the most part, receive sufficient merit. Moreover, it is the profession's distinct philosophy which is responsible for its very existence. Such problems would be greatly assuaged by the creation of separate departments of osteopathic medicine. The osteopathic medical department would not only promote training in osteopathic principles, it might also promote osteopathic health care among the various medical specialties.
