The two movies utilized for this discussion, Alan PakulaÆs All The PresidentÆs Men (1976) and Mike NicholÆs Primary Colors (1998) dramatize actual historical events within the American political structure. All the PresidentÆs Men is painstakingly authentic. Warner Brothers spent a lot of money to make the film newsroom in everyway equal to the actual Washington Post newsroom. The studio designer and the art director made special efforts to ship garbage to the set from the real Washington Post newsroom. Unfortunately, the writer was not as painstaking in his research of the account detailing what occurred. His historical accuracy to the events demonstrates the use of fictional liberties undertaken for the sake of maintaining a specific artistic vision. Instead of truly gaining insight into the events surrounding the Watergate break-in that takes place in the beginning of the film, we are left with a sense of gratitude that the reporters utilized means putting them above the law in order to justify the outcome.
