Dermaceutics Tests
This is an excerpt from the paper...
Considerations for tailoring the tests required for Dermaceutics tests begin with the nature of the risk components inherent in the company's operations. The company is small, with the result that only two staff members, Dave and Linda, are involved on a daily basis with the cash transaction process. Other personnel are involved on a nonroutine basis, with the result that consideration should be given to the daily processing and less consideration given to the exception processing (monthly reconciliation, for example). There is some control risk based on the limited number of people (two) involved in the daily processing of receivables, but in a company of this size, there is a limit to the number of people who can (or should) be involved. The company has instituted a method by which the clerk's work is checked by a superior on a regular basis, so steps have been taken to minimize risk. However, because the company has run at a deficit for some time, additional care should be taken when noting variances that require additional review. Currently, the monetary level required is $10,000; a lower figure might help the company spot additional problems (in the $7500 range) for example which could well be material. 4.2. Authorization: All orders for new customers are reviewed by Dave on a daily basis. Other orders are recognized by the system as existing customers. Credit limits are checked on each order against the internal computer files (this is an automated process).

s. Those payments which cannot be reconciled automatically are manually processed, with Linda making phone calls, where appropriate, and taking other action to complete the reconciliation process.
The lockbox system prevents the possibility that receipts are lost between Dermaceutics and the bank, but increases the risk that the bank may make a mistake. This is where the lockbox system comes into play since actual receipts can be checked against the tape provided by the bank, although there is currently no evidence that Dermaceutics takes this extra step.
Completeness of Input (receipts): The tape provided by the bank offers the automation of the receipt process; an edit routine is used for this. Unidentified payments and partial payments are manually reconciled and the entire batch is reconciled by Linda and verified by Dave.
Accuracy of Input (receipts): This is accomplished by the tape received from the bank, although some payments are manually reconciled and entered based on Linda's resolutions. There is some risk of error through the manual processing, but this is minimal.
Completeness and Accuracy of Updating (receipts): This is an automatic process that is performed by the computer based on the information provid
