OD Practioner
This is an excerpt from the paper...
The purpose of this paper is to provide a personal reaction to the following article: Bellman, g. (1994). Bringing who you are to what you do. OD Practioner, Fall/Winter, 12-17. I find Bellman's (1994) article extremely important in terms of enhancing self-understanding. The article is important because it informs readers about why self-understanding must be a part of OD efforts, namely because without a knowledge of one's purpose and meaning in life, there is a loss of power in what an individual can bring to an organization. In other words, any organizational change must be made meaningful to workers and a change agent who is bereft of knowledge regarding purpose and meaning is going to have difficulty accomplishing this goal--or even understanding it. What I like most about the article is that Bellman is strongly grounded in one of the essential truths of life. This truth is that what we do in life is not independent from who we are. The sound (and often humorous) logic by which Bellman explicates this truth is very appealing and very convincing.
