Servant leadership requires a person to lead by serving others. By prioritising the needs of other, less powerful people, a servant leader reveals the true state of their heart. In terms of professionalism, the servant leadership model requires the leader to take responsibility for meeting the needs of others, whilst also fulfilling the requirements and obligations demanded by superior authorities. Jesus Christ modelled the principle of servant leadership, as Scripture records (Luke 22:26). Jesus espoused the importance of a servant's obligation to obey his master (Colossians 3:22), but exhorted masters to treat their servants justly and compassionately. This demonstrates Jesus' view that servants and their masters are of equal value in the kingdom of God, and do not have differing status in terms of basic human rights.
