Eastern Philosophies & Teachings
This is an excerpt from the paper...
In Buddhism, the search for nibbana is the search for peace for everyone (Buddhist). It is an end to suffering, and is present within everyone, though most people do not even realize it exists. It is a cooling of the spirit, a putting out of the fires, an end to suffering. Nibbana has many synonyms, such as deathless, permanence, peace, health, safety, freedom, emancipation, shelter, refuge, immunity, supreme joy, and the other shore. Peaceful cooling is the meaning of all these words, for there are no fires in them to put out, but most people cannot recognize this subtlety because they are still too involved with defilement, or dukkha. Thai monks chant the benefits of ethical behavior, "silena nibbutim yenti" meaning nibbuti is achieved through ethics. Nibbuti is an ethical level of nibbana. If everyone was to recognize the presence of nibbana, and accept it, and let it change their lives for the better, it would change life
