Comparison of Two Restaurant Chains

When people decide on a place to dine with friends and family, they will choose one place over another for a variety of reasons. These reasons include the atmosphere or dTcor of the place, the menu, and the different types of other people who visit the establishment. This paper will use the menus, atmosphere and dTcor, and customer base of each restaurant to show the differences between Applebee's, and Chili's, specifically how Applebee's is more of a small town family restaurant and how Chili's is more of a party restaurant.

One of the ways that shows how Chili's is a party restaurant is in the menu, which offers a variety of appetizers and foods that are associated with going out and having a good time. For example, Chili's specializes in a style of food known as Tex-Mex, which is a type of food that mixes southern and Mexican tastes (City Search www.citysearch.com). The menu offered at Chili's has the tex-mex flavor without being too spicy and goes well with the Margaritas Presidente that is a specialty. This food style is reflected in the rest of the menu, which includes barbequed baby back ribs, fajitas, deep fried onions, nachos, buffalo wings, tostada chips, and Cajun chicken (Chili's www.chilis.com). They also offer American cuisine, both traditional and regional depending on where the restaurant is located, yet even these use ingredients such as chipotle that add a southwestern flair (Chili's www.chilis.com).

Applebee's, on the other hand, has a menu that contains more of an "All-American" cuisine that reflects its small town neighborhood appeal. While their menu changes from region to region to accommodate the tastes of people in different parts of the country, it is still a mostly "American" menu with large portions (City Search www.citysearch.com).
