Four Social Work Case Assessment and Interventions In the case of 15-year-old Roneisha, a pregnant African-American female living in foster care with an experienced but aging foster mother, number problems can be identified. First, this young female has become sexually active and has become pregnant as a result of her precocity; she refuses to identify the father of the child and has insisted that she will carry the child to term and care for its herself because she needs "someone to love her" and she does not wish to be like her own abusive, emotionally distant mother. Other issues that are significant in this young teenager's case are: Her poor dietary habits, which are damaging to her health and that of her unborn child; Her use of cigarettes, marijuana, and prescription drugs (i.e., Zoloft and Risperdal) that are injurious to her health and that of the unborn child; Her inability to control her anger and frustration, which has resulted in violent episodes at school and increasingly severe attacks on her foster mother; Poor peer relationships and fighting and refusal to Eat the food her foster mother prepares. Taken together, these are symptoms that could be associated with a number of possible diagnoses. Zastrow and Kirst-Ashma (2004) noted that many of these symptoms are suggestive of anti-social personality disorders, poor locus of control, and potential abuse of drugs, and risk-taking behaviors that can lead to serious inte

along with use of instruments such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory to assist her in finding an appropriate career and vocational path; 3) individual counseling for Le, focusing specifically on developing more appropriate anger management and coping skills; 4) academic interventions to assist Le in mastering difficult school subjects; 5) family counseling for the mother and her son to assist both in establishing a more productive and less dysfunctional relationships. A fairly intensive case management approach as recommended by Zastrow and Kirst-Ashma (2004) is needed to address this lengthy set of social work interventions.
For Le's mother, removal from an abusive situation is paramount. For Le, removal from the street environment in which he has become involved is equally vital. Le may benefit from residential placement in a group home for disturbed children where his behavior can be more closely monitored and counseling can be more comprehensive than it is likely to be in a shelter for victims of domestic violence and abuse. Separating the family, at least temporarily, might be to their mutual benefit (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashma, 2004).
