The product offered by OFWARS actually has many small competitors rather than any large one. What OFWARS offers is actually a very specific background check on an individual's litigation history. The main providers of such histories are Private Investigators (for small companies), specialist researchers in law firms (for medium to large companies), and in-house specialists in corporate law departments (for very large and multinational companies).

In developing OFWARS into a system or service that can be sold, and then supporting it using the Yahoo information network, Yahoo accomplishes two goals. First, it turns adversaries into customers. Rather than trying to replace researchers, it becomes the ultimate tool for them to use. Secondly, much of the initial advertising and globalization will be accomplish before Yahoo expands across boarders through word of mouth and interaction with the service through join ventures or representation by U.S. law firms.
