My firm is and medical research department of a health insurance company. We are trying to collect data on the medicine usage of asthma sufferers. We emergency room surveys to determine if more of our patients should be on maintenance medications. Asthma is a chronic illness which has three effects. One, it narrows the bronchi and makes it difficult to breath. Two, it makes the lungs sensitive to environmental stimuli which can set off an "attack", during which the lungs refuse to take in more air and a person can die. Three, the lungs produce extra mucus, making the patient more prone to infection and less likely to recover from one.
