Man's Contribution to Environmental Problems

This is an excerpt from the paper...

There are many problems facing the world today, most of them man-made. Man has been ruthless in his treatment of the planet, using it for his own ends without a thought for the future generations, and without a thought to the longterm effects of the destruction he is wreaking on the natural balance of nature. The massive destruction of many of the world's forests will have disastrous effects on the climate. Trees are needed to absorb the carbon dioxide we exhale and produce the oxygen we breathe, yet we destroy them at an alarming rate: some areas of the world are virtually treeless already because we do not replant what we take. The rainforests are diminishing at a frightening speed, and with them many of the world's species of plants and animals, many of them as yet unknown to man, or little known. Every year we lose countless species of plants, animals and insects because of destruction of their ecosystems and suitable habitat.

There is only so much that can be dig up from deep in the earth before it collapses in on itself. The Earth has only so much to give, and since the deve

As lives have improved on the whole and work has gotten somewhat easier for most, and living conditions have improved for most, in industrialized nations at least, people have become more and more unwilling to create a disturbance, to complain, to protests the inequities of life. Particularly in America, no one is willing to mount a major protest against the government, no matter what it does. Even when it commits the most egregious crimes and lies to the public and covers up blunders and bribery and corruption - no one protests! Everyone just believes that is the way things are today and sits back and accepts their lot. The major problem in the world today is the lack of strong activism for any cause, be it environmentalism, renewable energy, stopping government corruption, ending unfair labor practices, demanding a living wage for all - none of this lights a spark in anyone and causes such a stir an
