Retirees' Experiences FINDINGS This research explored ret

This research explored retirees' experience of life satisfaction in relation to whether they had resolved the psychosocial crisis accompanying old age (a crisis of integrity versus despair). Further, the research explored whether the effects of crisis resolution were associated with 'the subject demographics of age, educational background, religion, and whether or not retirement was voluntary.

This chapter of the study presents the results observed for all tests of the study's research hypotheses pertinent to the research objectives. Following the presentation of results, findings are discussed in relation to the literature and, where appropriate, to research methodology.

Crisis Resolution and Life Satisfaction

The study's first hypothesis predicted that life satisfaction would be higher among those men who resolved Erikson's psychosocial crisis of old age than it would be among men who had not resolved the crisis. The findings observed for the one-way analysis of variance conducted to test this hypothesis are presented in Table 1 along with the descriptive statistics for each crisis resolution group.

As can be seen from examination of Table 1, findings were significant (F=17.03; df(1,88), p<.0001) indicating that older men who had resolved the psychological crisis of old age

(Mean = 3.69) were significantly more satisfied with their lives
