Ideas of Health & Human Services The purpose of this paper is to summari

This is an excerpt from the paper...

The purpose of this paper is to summarize and discuss: a) five main ideas presented in the articles used for the annotated bibliography on health and human services; and b) five main ideas presented in the articles comprising the annotated bibliography on ecological models. Regarding health and human services, it can be noted that several articles were salient to the use of alternative treatment approaches for physical illnesses and/or the health care crisis in America; and the ideas presented therein can be directly related to one another.

In this regard, the National Institute of Technology's (NIH) Assessment Panel (1996), reported that many non-pharmacologic treatment interventions are currently being used for patients with chronic and/or life-threatening illnesses. Moreover, indications are that for some physical illnesses, non-pharmacologic therapies can actually operate to heal the condition without the use of more complex and more expensive pharmacologic methods (Walley, Beebe & Clark, 1994).

The foregoing facts are directly relevant to the health care crisis in America and for the system's need of a general overhaul. Specifically, Haislmaier (1990) proposed that the best way to handle the health care crisis was to restore consumer choice to Americans; but what do consumers want? There are indications that consumers want alternative therapies (Flash, 1997); and this because they so often introduce a desired spiritual and/or personal component (Wallis, 1996
