In Bandura's theory, individual agency and social structure operate interdependently. Social structures are created by human activity and they impose constraints and provide resources and opportunity structures for individual functioning and development (Bandura). The influence of perceived collective political efficacy and trust in the government system is predictive of the form and level of political activity of individuals. Individuals who believe that through collective efforts they can achieve desired changes, and that their government system is trustworthy, will be active participants in conventional political activities. Those who do not trust the government to be responsive to their collective desires will choose more unconventional political channels through which to voice their opinions, and will use more coercive and confrontational tactics to try and achieve their goals.
