Evolution by natural selection is what Darwin termed "survival of the fittest" and refers to the survival of those most able to adapt to change. For instance, if the climate changes, and certain types of vegetation predominate, members of an animal species which can survive on that type of vegetation will survive while those which can only survive on vegetation which no longer thrives because of the climate change will die out. This is natural selection: the species distribution has changed because of the changes in the available food, i.e. evolution has occurred through natural selection, the species evolving as predominant are those members of the species having the ability to survive the natural changes which have occurred.
