Critique of Article on Diabetes

The article by Sheldon H. Gottleib, a cardiologist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and director of the Diabetes-Heart Failure Program at Johns Hopkins Healthcare, LLC, is aimed at diabetics but you forget this as you are reading the article because he wanders from the subject of diabetic compliance to concentrate on change and what makes people change (Gottlie, 2004). He delves into the theories of change and how they came about and what it is that makes people want to change bad habits which are harmful to their health.

The article starts off talking about two women who are overweight and have diabetes and heart problems, and how one immediately starts dieting, exercising and changing her lifestyle until she is off medication for her heart problems and cholesterol, while the other one is still struggling with her problems, and "trying" hard (Gottlieb, 2004). He goes on to talk about people whose family members have died of lung cancer yet they continue to smoke.
