The standard language of a country is the language which is recognized as the official language of that country and is considered the "correct" language of the nation (Standard). It is usually the language of the capital city, and is defined as the selection of certain regional and class markers and the rejection of others. It is the language taught to learners of the language as a foreign language, and its spelling and grammar are used in most texts in that language. Gender differences in speech patterns develop as language develops in children as young as three years of age (Differences). Girls talk to be liked, to create harmony, to make requests, and talk indirectly. Boys talk to boast, to prolong conflict, to make demands and talk directly. In adulthood, women use words to connect themselves emotionally, to express feelings, and build rapport, while men use facts and figures, speak to maintain independence, and talk to embellish status. In this senses, they can be considered to speak different dialects of the same language. Teachers teaching a foreign language which can be spoken with a variety of accents may have trouble because different students may use the different accents. The teacher should teach the standard accent as this will be the one most commonly used in the country of origin, and therefore the most understood. The standard language of a country is
