Supply-Chain Management Tools

This is an excerpt from the paper...

LOGISTICS SUPPLY-CHAIN MANAGEMENT: SUPPLY-CHAIN TOOLS FOR SOLECTRON IN 2001

This case assesses the need of Solectron Corporation in the fall of 2001 for the implementation of enhanced supply-chain management tools. The case further assesses supply-chain management tools developed by IBM and Digital Equipment Corporation for their appropriateness for implementation of Solectron in the fall of 2001.

The case deals with Solectron as the company existed in the fall of 2001. By this point in its development, the company had assumed more responsibilities for customers (inventory, purchasing, and so forth), as it extended the range of its supply-chain management services. As a consequence, customer companies more than ever before were able to focus their efforts and resources on strategic issues as opposed to tactical operations (Hoyt & Lee, 2001). This approach created additional value for customer companies as they focused more directly on their own core competencies.
