ARE MORE MEN OR WOMEN SUBJECT TO SEXISM IN TODAY'S SOCIETY In 1986, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling on affirmative action. In it, the majority held that an employer could give preference to women, when making promotions. This enables employers to use gender as one consideration of personnel decisions. Yet, David Thomas, Neil Lyndon, and Warren Farrell claim men face discrimination, especially in divorce and child custody cases. Women still are at the low end of the management totem pole. There is such a thing still called "the glass ceiling". There are very few women in top management positions. Women still tend to be paid about 70% of what men's salaries are, especially at the top.
