Application of Learning

This course involved the application of a variety of methods and tools in operational situations wherein such applications are designed to lead to improved levels of quality with respect to the output or production of a firm. In my personal situation as a computer programmer, high levels of quality in output are both crucial to the success of the firm and difficult to attain because of the nature of the work involved in programming.

One of the most important lesson that I learned through participation in this course is the importance of assessing product quality within the context of the perceptions of that quality by the end users of the products. What such measurement translates into is the level of customer satisfaction developed by a firm through the production and marketing of its products. Certainly, this issue is crucial in the production and marketing of computer software. While this course did not teach me how to perform computer programming at higher quality levels than my work was when I entered this course, participation in this course has shown me that quality in many ways is a perception of the end user, as opposed to some measurement of the process of producing the product. Thus, the methods and tools with which I became acquainted through participation in this course can be applied in the field of computer programming as means of measuring levels of customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction. On the basis of such measurements, changes in product design and functionality can be made to improve customer usability of, thus, satisfaction with the product. Through this process the quality level of the computer programming that I perform as my work will be improved.
