ANALYSIS OF NYSE STOCK: DISNEY

 
 
 
 
The stock market received much attention during the late 1990s when the so-called dot-com "bubble" resulted in spectacular profits for some investors, and spectacular losses for others. Investment clubs gained publicity as individuals sought to become better-educated about the market, and increasingly numbers of individuals invested their retirement funds in the stock market through 401(k) plans and similar retirement vehicles. The exuberance over the stock market has declined in recent years as the markets have lost some of their value, and the returns are no longer as dramatic as they once were. Nonetheless, a company's stock performance can provide much information about the performance of the company itself, including its prospects and its challenges, and individuals considering working at a particular company, or investing in a company, can learn much with some basic research about recent stock performance and a company's recent history. This research considers the stock performance of the Walt Disney Company over the past two months, and whether this company represents a good investment opportunity or a good employment opportunity.

company's media networks accounted for 40 percent of its revenues, the theme parks, resorts and cruise line contributed 24 percent, filmed entertainment, books and music contributed 27 percent while its retail operation which is currently for sale and licensing brought in another nine percent of revenues. The company receives royalties from Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris; a new theme park in Hong Kong is slated to open in late 2005 or early 2006; this will also provide royalties to the company (Churchwell 1865).
