An Inner Ring

An Inner Ring is an invisible circle that separates people into many groups, a natural phenomenon within society and human life. There is a female ring and a male ring. This is seen as early as kindergarten when boys and girls are socialized into their gender. For example, girls do not play with cars and boys are discouraged from playing with dolls. These behaviors are associated with the 'Inner Ring'. Therefore, girls and boys perceive the other gender to be an outsider and that playing cars and dolls together would then be inappropriate. C.S. Lewis states, "I am not going to say that the existence of the Inner Ring is an evil. It is certainly unavoidable." I agree with this statement in that I believe the 'Inner Ring' is unavoidable. People in this world have different cultures, thinking and religious beliefs. It is therefore inevitable that when they come together, these differences will create new ideals and new complications. People with similar thinking, background and languages will come together and make friends easily with each other. On the other hand, these same people will tend to have biases or repel those who may not think like them. It is possible then that those who speak the same language will put themselves within a circle that keeps outsiders away making it very hard for a newcomer to enter the ring.
