The six Arab countries which belong to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) represent one of the most significant economic and political groupings in the Middle East. The GCC, which was formed in 1981, includes as member states Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
