The state of our economy has brought us an avalanche of job applications. Many of these come from people who are either (1) unqualified for our professional positions, or (2) over-qualified for the positions and salary ranges our company now has in place.
However, it is important that even as we reject the great majority of these applications, that we do not discourage the letter writers. As our company grows, new positions will be opening, and we need to maintain an active file of the applications we are now receiving. Therefore, our letters of "turn-down" should be phrased in as optimistic manner as possible. That means we should thank the letter writer and mention that we are a growing company and we may have some openings for which they are well qualified,
