INFORMAL PROPOSAL
This is an excerpt from the paper...
1. What specific topic or subject area do you proposed to explore for your research study? I want to examine the degree to which employees' occupational stress levels are affected by divorce and gender. Specifically, I want to find out if: (a) occupational stress levels differ depending upon whether or not employees are non-divorced first marrieds, recently divorced (within last six months) first marrieds, or non-recently divorced (divorced between 16 and 24 months prior to the study) first marrieds; and/or (b) occupational stress levels in each and across the three divorce groups differ depending upon whether the employee is a male or female. The specifics of the research topic can perhaps be best understood through the following depiction of the basic design: _________________________________________________________________ MARITAL STATUS ----------------------------------------------------------------- GENDER Non-Divorced Recently Divorced Non-Recently Divorced ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Female _________________________________________________________________ 2. I will contact and ask permission to conduct the study. It can be noted here that I am restricting sample subjects only to those who are first time marrieds in order to control for any response variance that might be associated with being married and/or divorced more than once.
The determination of who meets the subject selection criteria will be made by placing flyers advertising the study and its subject selection criteria throughout the plant. These flyers will stress the importance of the study in making sure that employees do not suffer from undue occupational stress, which it is hoped will be sufficiently interesting for employees that they will contact the researcher at the provided number. During this contact, a determination will be made as to whether they fit the subject selection criteria. If they do, the information will be recorded and the researcher will ask them to participate in the study.
I would like no less than 16 subjects (8 males and 8 females) in each of the six design cells (shown in the graphic depiction of the research design presented in the response to the first question). Therefore I will need a minimum of 96 subjects. If more than one company is used, I will counterbalance subjects for the comp
