The issue is what should be done with young offenders, considering the escalating problem of children and teenagers committing violent crimes. Many tend to blame it on the violence these young people see on television and hear in their music, but many are beginning to question the justice system which sees incarceration and punishment as the only answer. Prisons are overcrowded with young people, often incarcerated for only minor offenses, and the system does not provide much in the way of rehabilitation or education, so many young offenders, as the one described by Feuer (Wood 559-563) are faced with little choice when they leave prison but to return to their lives as drug users and dealers.
