Intersubjectivity is not defined directly, but it is described through the adjective, transpersonal, in the concept transpersonal caring. Watson (1985) stated:

Transpersonal refers to an intersubjective human-to-human relationship in which the person of the nurse affects and is affected by the person of the other. Both are fully present in the moment and feel a union with the other. They share a phenomenal field which becomes part of the life history of both and are coparticipants in becoming in the now and the future. Such an ideal of caring entails an ideal of intersubjectivity, in which both persons are involved (p. 58).
