This is an excerpt from the paper...

The Israeli settlement movement is comprised of individuals who are racist and unwilling or able to compromise. The settlement movement began with Zionism and has progressed to become a movement filled with racial and religious overtones which claims it has superior historical and religious claims over the whole of ancient Canaan. The movement has become powerful by allying itself with the nationalist movement, and many rabbis. The movement takes advantage of the official Orthodox position of passivity and claims to be the instrument through which God will be able to bring about the coming of the Messiah.

Many of the fundamentalist groups are not afraid to use violent means to achieve their ends. The head of the Gush Emunim, Zvi Yehuda Kook, is the son of Abraham Isaac Kook. Abraham Isaac Kook commands authority on two counts: he was Israel's chief rabbi from 1919 to his death in 1935, and Gush Emunim bases its beliefs on his writing The World View According to the Fundamentalists The fundamentalists view God's reputation as an extension of how the Jewish people are faring in the world. Historical events are interpreted, by the fundamentalists, to find how God is viewing his chosen people, what these chosen people should be doing, and the status of God's reputation. They believe that it is their responsibility to order events in a manner which will usher in the Messianic age. The reclaiming of the land which God gave them is the first step in this process. The conflict with the Arabs over the occ
