The purpose of the assessment was to provide the manufacturer with the data required to facilitate a decision on the quality assessment procedure to implement. Quantitative analysis performed with the Minitab application program determined that a non-traditional approach to quality assessment would yield the lowest product item defect rates on a consistent basis. The globalization of economic activity has created increased competitive pressures for manufacturers of precision tools in the developed countries, as manufacturers in less developed countries are able to develop a competitive advantage in relation to pricing.
