Science is the study of anything that can be examined, tested, and proved. It is based on verifiable facts and not on personal beliefs. Scientific facts may have to be modified over time as new facts come to light, and in this way science builds on work done in the past as new and better technologies are developed to examine a particular subject. Some scientific knowledge has remained constant over time, such as the science of numbers, while other scientific knowledge, such as that about the genetics of cancer is relatively new, developing only in the last 50 years. New discoveries sometime merely prove existing theories are correct, such as those proving that elastic object stretch proportional to the force applied to them, which was discovered in 1676 and still holds true.
