Facts: In 1998-1999 and until June 1, 2000, our client, Ms. J.K.

Rowling, an English teacher in Jacksonville Middle School, became engaged to and lived with a warehouse worker and aspiring novelist, Dennis Mentor. For several hours every evening during the first eight months of 1999, Rowling typed into their computer Mr. Mentor's draft novel and made suggestions for changes in it most of which related to character development and grammatical development, which Mentor accepted. She helped Mentor because she wanted him to be happy and to succeed with his novel. On September 1, 2000, she wrote cover letters to fifty publishers, one of whom, Ronald Weasley of Weasley Publishing, notified Mentor that his novel has been accepted for publication and paid him a cash advance of $100,000 and agreed to pay him future royalties. On June 1, 2000, just 29 days before their scheduled wedding day, Mentor quit his job, left town with another woman and left their dog and his engagement ring to Rowling.
