Ethnic Bias in Police Officers and Citizen Complaings

The problem is that the police department is being criticized regarding the number of citizen complaints that have been filed. The department is being viewed as insensitive to these complaints and it is suggested that this insensitivity is due to ethnic bias in the officers. A study is needed to determine if ethnic bias is present in the police department. Further, this study must examine whether there is a relationship between the number of citizen complaints and the degree of ethnic bias. A qualitative case study will be used to determine if police officers are prone to ethnic bias in this department. A correlational study will be used to examine the relationship between ethnic bias and citizen complaints in a group of officers with and without a history of citizen complaints. Anonymity will be guaranteed for all subjects, since it is unlikely that an officer would be willing to discuss their negative feelings toward citizens and their complaints and it is unlikely that officers would self-rate themselves as ethni
