The right to vote represents a hard fought and won right for American citizens. Many individuals, including African Americans, women, and individuals under 21 were prevented from voting historically in this nation. As such, there are a number of important reasons why voting is a very important action on behalf of U.S. citizens. Voting is important because social and political reforms often depend on the voices and actions of U.S. voters. Voting is also important because participation in political solutions today relieves future generations of burdens that would exacerbate without political action. Finally, voting is important because those who do not vote often represent part of the problem instead of becoming part of the solution for social problems. This analysis will explore these three important reasons for exercising one's right to vote in American society.
