The U.S. Department of Justice brought suit against Microsoft Corporation in the 1990s for maintaining a monopoly. At the heart of competitor complaints and the DOJÆs antitrust suit was MicrosoftÆs practice of bundling. Bundling refers to tying its Windows Operating System (OS) to an Internet browser, in this case MicrosoftÆs Internet Explorer. The case has been decided and appealed by Microsoft. The final verdict amounted to little more than a slap on the wrist to onlookers, but in the original ruling bundling was the main target of prosecutors.
