Further, Paris is torn by factionalism and most major cities are embroiled in uprisings, while the people continue to starve in the face of rising inflation and peasants setting crops on fire in their demand for bread, (Ten, p. 2). The lack of food and government representation without means of redress mandates the immediate execution of Louis XVI, since I and other Jacobins understand the decadent monarchy cannot be reigned in by present government structures. The Jacobins, of which I am a member, are led by Marat and Robespierre, two men who adhere to the principles established by Rousseau and the doctrine of the ôSovereignty of the people,ö (History, p. 3). The Jacobins continue to call for democratic reforms and speak for the urban poor and French peasantry, groups that are excluded from any meaningful policies for their welfare by the tyrant Louis XVI. While the decadence of his monarchy continues unfettered, the people starve as their needs go unmet.
