The Poem, Mustard Seed Spring

In Brashear's (p. 1) "Mustard Seed Spring," the speaker is observing the landscape which is a "yellow world" he labels "Mustard Seed Spring." In this poem the speaker uses a number of figures of speech to help convey his wonder and awe of the "whole world" which he maintains has been turned into "nature's park," (Brashear, p. 2). The speaker uses simile to try to convey a visual image for us of what he is observing, such as when he tells us that as far as he can see the yellow world is "Framed in a fresh green / Of hills rolling like seas," (Brashear, p. 1). Such devices and word choice help us conjure up the image he is observing.
