The chimpanzees I observed at the zoo were members of a couple of different families of chimps. Some of them were quite young. I noticed how protective the adult male chimpanzees were of the young chimpanzees. At one point, an older chimpanzee was trying to play rough with one of the youngest chimps and the chimpÆs older father ran over to the site and made threatening noises until the older of the two chimps scurried away. At the same time, I noticed how nurturing the female chimpanzees were to the youngest ones, from nursing them and grooming them to the way they held them.
