In I Can, I Will, Dr. Frederick G. Elias (1992) provides a self-help book on personal growth and development aimed at raising self-esteem, increasing success, and experiencing true happiness. While this seems like a lot for one book to provide, EliasÆ (1992) simple steps the changing attitude and behavior illustrates that quite often the biggest obstacle to greater success is us. One of the biggest challenges in my life was my move to the U.S. and American culture, after spending my formative and early adult years as in Armenia immersed in Armenian culture. When I arrived here, I was completely challenged by the enormous culture shock between two cultures with different values, beliefs, languages, customs and the like. I continued to think of the past, longing for my family, friends, and culture; instead of facing the numerous challenges confronting me like going to school and holding a job, learning a new language, making new social contacts and the like.
