Another reason why a writing workshop is warranted stems from the increase in new communications technologies, ones that often require adaptations to traditional writing skills even in those who write well in the conventional manner. As Graham (2004) insists, ôThe problem isnÆt the technology, itÆs with us, the users. Great communications has not produced great communicators. Just the opposite is true. As communication technology improves; communications skills declineö (p. 20). Communications skills decline because the same skills needed to write in a conventional manner are not always the same ones required for effective electronic communications. In light of the number of new and increasingly complex communications technologies, a writing workshop is needed that will also encompass electronic communications writing skills development in employees.
