The rise of conflict is inevitable in any interpersonal relationship. As DeVito (2004) maintains, ôBecause people are different and will necessarily see things differently, interpersonal conflict is inevitableö (310). Conflict is therefore typical of many relationships. Despite the pervasive presence of conflict in interpersonal communication, conflict has both positive as well as negative qualities.
